AuthAnvil Password Server Sync Agent Setup
Cody Marbach
One of the most powerful features in the AuthAnvil Password Server is that of Password Synchronization, and in order to make use of this time saving and security enhancing benefit, you need to understand Sync Agents. A Sync Agent is a Windows service that you can install, which communicates with the AuthAnvil Password Server to perform synchronizations of Windows, domain, task, and service account passwords. To install the Sync Agent, simply go the Sync Agents page in AuthAnvil Password Server, and download the installer package. Inside, you find the install .msi, and a configuration file unique to your installation of the Password Server.
We recommend that Sync Agents be installed on domain member servers, rather than domain controllers. If installing in a non-domain environment, installing on a server with full network visibility is sufficient. Simply extract the archive, and run the .msi
in the same directory as your unique configuration file. Follow the on-screen
instructions, and complete the installation. Then, run the Sync Agent Control Form with elevated privileges,
confirm your AuthAnvil Password Server URL and make note of the Trust
Verification Code (TVC), and save the settings to start the service.
Head back over to the AuthAnvil Password Server, and return to the Sync Agents page to approve the Sync Agent. You can confirm the TVC that was displayed in the config tool to insure that you only approve authorized agents. Give the agent a name and a selection of scopes, and you're done!
Next time, we'll talk about using this agent to synchronize some basic passwords. If you have any questions about this or other AuthAnvil Password Server topics, please post in the comments below!
